Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) seem reluctant to block Facebook or its blasphemous page “Everybody Burn Quran Day” (nauzubillah), which is accessible at large in Pakistan.
The said page appeared on Facebook recently seeking subscribers to celebration that day on September 11.
Facebook’s page portrays a picture of a girl having a book pretending to be Quran in her one hand and stick on her another hand. The message mentioned under it is “They preach that Islam is religion of peace and freedom which is hypocrisy in reality. So as long as this hypocrisy goes, this fire is on Quran and I will continue to do so for unlimited time. Also I encourage you to set fire on Quran.”
It had 1,726 fans across the world but its wall contains messages on the religious tolerance and harmony particularly from Muslims and Christian. A couple of pages have also been designed on Facebook against it.
This page contains hundreds of insulting photos on Islam, Muslims and Quran.
Facebook Terms of Services
Facebook is governed under its Terms of Services (TOS). Item 3.7 of Facebook says “You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence”. On the violation facebook terminate the users’ account within minutes.
Action Against IT
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) detected this websites a couple of days earlier and informed it to ministry concerned to decide its display in the country.
But the ministry is still mulling to block the pages could be visit by every internet users in the country.
The ministry and authority both faced severe criticism on the Facebook blockade by the some section of the society though it was a verdict of Lahore High Court.
But they have not taken appropriate action against the blasphemous page despite the court has already asked them to do it on its own as any URL, sites, link are found sacrilegious.
Pakistan’s authority has blocked Facebook access from May 19-30 following the directives of Lahore High Court (LHC). It has also banned 17 other websites last month containing hatred material against Islam.
Pakistan was the first country in the world that imposed curfew on its cyber borders for the website completely thanks to independent judiciary. United Arab Emirates (UAE) also followed the same suit and blocked this website entirely while Saudi Arabia only restricted the access to that objectionable and blasphemous page on Facebook.

Facebook has nearly 2.4 million estimated subscribers out of 8 million internet users in Pakistan. Its ranking fell from 3rd to 4th after it was banned in May.
