From ‘Poke Me’ To ‘Ask Me’ – Facebook Adds A New Feature

A recent post from the Facebook blog revealed a lot of plans which clearly states one thing and that is- Facebook is the No.1 Social Networking Platform with 500+ Million Users and is under some serious expansion mode. We have heard stories about facebook wanting to expand in the Location Based Market as well which is a no brainer if it comes to such a huge and active population. Coming back to the post, Facebook has come up with Facebook Questions, a beta product that lets you pose questions to the Facebook community. Yes, to the whole Facebook world across the globe. Sounds interesting right?

How does it Work?

Facebook Questions will aid in to ask a question to more than 500 million people on Facebook. For example, if you are exploring a new place and want to know more about it, besides Google, facebook will be your best bet to put up any question. The question will appear to your friends and their friends, for which you’ll receive answers that are more personalized to you.

What More than asking?

After you ask a question you have the option of adding a poll or a photo/link to better describe the whole purpose. If you want to do s survey regarding a study that you are doing, polls would be an option you definitely don’t want to miss out on for getting cumulative results.

Also a big but expected add on is where you can add tags to your question. So in case you have questions regarding buying a new car, tagging it will better help you to get the precise answers. In essence the questions you ask will be shown to people who have expressed interest in the particular topics you have tagged in, as well as to your friends and friends of friends.

Although other features like Rating the Answers, Related Questions, Related Topics have also been incorporated to clone a QnA website.

Who will be hurt the most?

From what we know, yahoo answers (90 Million Users) and rediff qna (50 Million Unique Users) that have the highest population of unique users will be hurt Big Time as they will have to compete with a 500 Million+ Giant that has many things besides what they have on offer. Also Facebook is storming into the QnA market rather openly to keep the current players weary of the whole trend and overtake them in no time.

What is lacking?

The real Location Based QnA feature is still missing as one cannot ask people things on the basis of location. For e.g. if someone is at a park and wants to explore things around, the best thing one could do is Ask a Question on Facebook Questions which could act as a Real Time Guide

All in all We feel that the whole idea of Asking Questions to friends and others has been already revolutionized by many QnA websites but with a massive and active population of 500 Millions users, Facebook is posied to stay at the No.1 position in the world.
