LAHORE – Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of the Punjab police while chairng a meeting here on Tuesday to review the law and order situation in the province.
“I am not interested in statistics but will be satisfied with the efficiency of the police force if the public also expressed their satisfaction,” the chief minister told senior police officers attending the meeting.
Shahbaz said his government was promoting good governance and merit in the province, adding that the police had been purged of political interference. “After creation of a very conducive environment, it is now the responsibility of police to show results,” he said, adding that honest police officers were posted in the province but the expected change at the lower level had not been witnessed.
He told the meeting that not only the salaries of police were raised substantially, the force has also been equipped with modern tools, so they should now perform efficiently. He warned that there should not be any hurdle in the provision of justice to the aggrieved at police stations and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
He reminded senior police cops attending the meeting that elimination of crime and protection of life and property of citizens was the duty of police and it should spare no effort to fulfill this obligation.
MNAs Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Afzal Khokhar, Bilal Yasin, Malik Riaz, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, MPAs Kh. Salman Rafiq, Mian Nauman, Dr. Saeed Elahi, Inspector General of Police, the Home Secretary, the Commissioner, the Capital City Police Officer and concerned officers were present.
Shahbaz expressed his desire to make provincial metropolis a role model with regard to elimination of Thana culture and corruption with strict accountability and monitoring in place. Later this model should be replicated in all districts of the province, he further stated.
